3D Artist
An engineering-focused simulation programme needs a 3D artist to transform technical ship drawings into polished, game-ready assets. This mission blends artistic judgement with real-time optimisation to create convincing maritime environments for training and simulation.
CONTEXT
Our client, a major player in its sector, is building immersive ship simulators that help professionals understand complex maritime environments before they face real-world conditions. The visual quality of these simulators depends on assets that look convincing, run smoothly, and remain easy to update. Technical drawings, reference materials, and engineering constraints form the raw material for a new library of reusable ship models. The team needs a 3D artist who can move comfortably between artistry and optimisation, turning dense documentation into clean geometry, believable materials, and efficient real-time scenes. This is a chance to shape a simulation product where visual craft directly supports learning, safety, and operational readiness.
ACTIVITIES
- Model and texture exterior assets for a fleet of ships using technical drawings and engineering references.
- Create game-ready meshes with sensible topology, efficient UV layouts, and optimised texture sets.
- Develop reusable asset components and standards that speed up future ship modelling work.
- Optimise models and materials for real-time performance without losing visual credibility.
- Prepare finished models and editable source files for integration into real-time 3D environments.
- Collaborate with simulation specialists, engineers, and product stakeholders to validate visual and technical requirements.
- Maintain asset documentation and ensure consistency across the full fleet.
EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
- Deliver a complete set of ship exteriors that meet both visual and real-time performance targets.
- Create an asset library that reduces future production effort and improves consistency.
- Provide clean, editable source files that the client can maintain and extend independently.
- Raise the visual quality of the simulators while keeping frame rates stable and scenes responsive.
- Contribute to a more convincing training environment where users can recognise and understand vessel details.
ENVIRONMENT
- 3D modelling, UV mapping, texturing, material creation, real-time engines, asset optimisation, and source-file management.
- Technical drawings, engineering references, reusable asset libraries, and performance profiling.
- Collaborative production workflow with iterative reviews and clear documentation standards.
