Lead Backend Engineer

Take the helm of an innovative squad, shaping the technical direction and engineering excellence for critical backend applications within a dynamic investment environment. This hands-on leadership role combines deep technical contribution with mentorship, ensuring robust, scalable, and secure systems that power essential customer journeys.

CONTEXT

In the fast-paced world of investment, seamless and reliable digital experiences are paramount. Our client, a major player in its sector, is at the forefront of this digital transformation, building sophisticated platforms that empower individuals and institutions to manage their financial futures. Within their vibrant "Invest environment," the "Instruction and Order" squad is a cornerstone, responsible for developing and maintaining the intricate backend applications and integrations that orchestrate pivotal investment-related customer journeys. This isn't just about writing code; it's about engineering trust, ensuring that every transaction, every data point, and every interaction is handled with precision, security, and speed. The team is poised for growth and innovation, seeking a visionary Technical Lead to guide them through complex architectural decisions, champion best practices, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, all while directly contributing to challenging implementation work.

ACTIVITIES

As a hands-on Technical Lead, your responsibilities will span technical leadership, architectural guidance, and direct development. You will provide coherent technical direction for the squad, ensuring that all backend applications and integrations are designed and implemented with scalability, resilience, and maintainability in mind. A crucial part of your role will involve facilitating technical design discussions, ensuring alignment with overarching architectural principles, stringent security standards, and operational best practices. You will be instrumental in establishing and promoting consistent engineering practices across the team, fostering a culture of high-quality code and robust testing. Proactive identification and mitigation of technical risks and debt will be a continuous effort. Furthermore, you will play a critical role in supporting production incidents, quickly diagnosing and resolving issues to minimize impact. Beyond code, you will mentor and coach developers within your squad, helping them grow their technical skills and careers, while also contributing directly to the most complex implementation work yourself. Maintaining a forward-looking view on application health, performance, and stability will be a key aspect of your strategic contribution.

EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

Your success in this role will be transformative for the "Instruction and Order" squad and the wider Invest environment. You will significantly enhance the technical robustness and efficiency of backend applications, leading to improved performance, stability, and security of critical investment customer journeys. By implementing consistent engineering practices and proactively managing technical debt, you will elevate code quality and accelerate development cycles. Your mentorship will empower developers to grow, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment. Ultimately, you will be the technical beacon that ensures the delivery of resilient, scalable, and future-proof backend solutions, directly contributing to the client's ability to offer exceptional and reliable investment services.

ENVIRONMENT

You will operate within an agile development environment, typically utilizing Scrum or Kanban methodologies, emphasizing collaboration and iterative delivery. The tech stack for backend development is robust and modern, often including languages like Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go, with frameworks such as Spring Boot, Node.js, or .NET Core. Databases might span SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL solutions (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra). You'll work extensively with microservices architectures, RESTful APIs, and message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ). Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) are integral to deployment and scaling. Tools like Git, Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) will be part of your daily toolkit. The culture emphasizes continuous learning, code reviews, and a strong focus on security and operational excellence.
