Safety Engineer
A high-stakes safety engineering mission supporting periodic safety reviews, permit applications and technical modelling for nuclear installations. You will turn regulatory expectations into defensible engineering decisions and safer long-term operations.
CONTEXT
Our client, a major player in its sector, operates at the frontier between industrial reliability and long-term environmental responsibility. Its nuclear facilities are entering a phase where periodic safety reviews are not a compliance ritual but a strategic moment to prove that every system, procedure and human decision still meets the highest safety expectations. The team is preparing a new cycle of safety assessments, permit files and modelling work that will shape how existing installations evolve and how future modifications are justified to regulators and internal stakeholders.
ACTIVITIES
- Contribute to periodic safety reviews of nuclear installations, consolidating technical evidence, safety arguments and action plans.
- Develop, update and implement safety guidelines that translate regulatory expectations into practical engineering rules.
- Manage safety-specific projects from scoping and planning through to delivery, reporting and close-out.
- Prepare and guide permit applications for new or modified installations, coordinating with engineering, operations and external bodies.
- Perform calculations and modelling studies to support departments within the Safety, Security and Environment service.
- Challenge technical assumptions, document safety cases and help teams anticipate risks before they become issues.
EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
The successful candidate will give the safety review programme a clear technical backbone, reducing uncertainty around permit submissions and helping teams make defensible decisions with confidence. Over time, the role will strengthen the client's safety culture by making guidelines easier to apply, calculations more transparent and project risks more visible to decision-makers.
ENVIRONMENT
The role sits within a highly regulated nuclear environment where rigour, traceability and cross-functional dialogue are essential. You will work with safety engineers, project managers, operations specialists and regulatory stakeholders, using calculation and modelling tools, document management practices and structured project methodologies. Expect a methodical setting with strong emphasis on quality, documentation, safety analysis and continuous improvement.
