Scrum Master

Guide a high-performing agile team through complex delivery, turning Scrum theory into daily practice and measurable outcomes. The role also acts as an agile ambassador, shaping how the wider organization embraces transparency, continuous improvement, and risk-aware delivery.

CONTEXT

Our client, a major player in its sector, is accelerating its agile transformation within a demanding investment banking context where regulatory pressure, tight deadlines, and complex dependencies are part of daily life. The team is not starting from zero, but it needs a seasoned Scrum Master who can move beyond ceremony facilitation and help the group mature into a truly self-managing unit. The mission sits at the intersection of delivery, coaching, and organizational change: the team must ship valuable features while the company learns to scale agility without losing control or accountability. The Scrum Master will therefore be a steady hand, a mirror for the team, and a trusted partner to product, engineering, and business stakeholders.

ACTIVITIES

  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Coach the team and its stakeholders on Scrum values, roles, events, and artifacts, adapting the framework to real constraints.
  • Remove impediments, escalate systemic blockers, and protect the team's focus so that commitments are realistic and met.
  • Track progress using agile metrics and radiators, helping the team inspect and adapt based on evidence rather than opinion.
  • Manage risks, issues, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations across a complex investment banking environment.
  • Act as an ambassador for agile methods, sharing practices, running workshops, and supporting other teams on their journey.
  • Potentially take on a feature delivery owner role, coordinating end-to-end delivery of a business feature from discovery to production.

EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Establish a predictable, transparent delivery rhythm that improves flow, reduces waste, and increases team morale.
  • Raise the team's agile maturity so that Scrum becomes a genuine operating system rather than a set of meetings.
  • Improve collaboration between business, technology, and control functions, reducing handoff delays and misunderstandings.
  • Deliver high-value features with better quality, fewer surprises, and stronger risk management.
  • Leave a lasting internal capability: empowered Scrum Masters, informed product owners, and a culture of continuous improvement.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Investment banking domain with strong regulatory, audit, and compliance constraints.
  • Scrum, Kanban, and hybrid agile practices; scaled agile concepts may be relevant.
  • Tooling such as Jira, Confluence, MIRO, and agile reporting dashboards.
  • Close collaboration with product owners, developers, QA, business analysts, risk officers, and senior stakeholders.
  • Continuous improvement, coaching, facilitation, and servant leadership as core methods.
