Telecom System Administrator

Safeguard the backbone of critical energy infrastructure by administering sophisticated telecom networks across Flanders. Your expertise will ensure reliable, secure communication, directly impacting the stability and efficiency of the region's energy supply.

CONTEXT

Imagine a world where the power grid isn't just about electricity flowing, but also about the intricate web of communications that orchestrates its every pulse. Our client, a pivotal player in the Belgian energy sector, is responsible for maintaining and evolving the vital infrastructure that powers homes, businesses, and industries across Flanders. At the heart of this complex network lies an equally critical telecom infrastructure – the nerves and arteries that transmit data, commands, and alerts, ensuring operational continuity and rapid response. As the energy landscape transforms with smart grids, renewable integration, and increased digitalization, the reliability and security of these telecom systems become paramount. You will step into a role that is foundational to national resilience, ensuring the lights stay on and the data flows seamlessly, safeguarding an essential public service.

ACTIVITIES

As a Telecom System Administrator, you will be the guardian of the network's health and performance. Your core responsibilities will include translating complex network designs into precise machine configurations, meticulously configuring and implementing new network equipment, primarily focusing on Cisco and advanced optical platforms. You will manage the entire lifecycle of on-site implementations, from planning and deployment to rigorous testing and troubleshooting, ensuring minimal disruption to critical operations. Maintaining comprehensive documentation of network topologies, configurations, and procedures will be essential. You will proactively manage and optimize network monitoring tools, responding to alerts and resolving incidents swiftly. Furthermore, you will actively participate in an on-call rotation, providing expert support outside regular hours to address any urgent network issues, embodying a commitment to 24/7 reliability.

EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

Your success will be evident in the flawless operation and robust performance of the telecom network, directly supporting the stability and efficiency of the energy grid. You will significantly contribute to reducing network downtime, enhancing communication security, and optimizing data flow. Through your meticulous configuration and proactive maintenance, you will ensure that new network deployments are seamlessly integrated and perform optimally from day one. Your comprehensive documentation will serve as a vital resource for the team, improving operational efficiency and knowledge transfer. Ultimately, your efforts will underpin the continuous, reliable supply of energy, fostering trust in the infrastructure and ensuring that essential services are consistently delivered to the community.

ENVIRONMENT

You will work within a specialized and highly critical ICT infrastructure environment, with a strong focus on telecom technologies crucial to the energy sector. The technical landscape is dominated by Cisco networking equipment, advanced fiber optics, and various optical platforms. A deep understanding of TCP/IP protocols is fundamental. Your work will involve interaction with diverse operating systems, including Unix/Linux and Windows environments, often interfacing with specific industrial control systems. You will utilize sophisticated network monitoring and management tools. The role is hybrid, combining dedicated office work in Melle with frequent on-site visits across Flanders, requiring hands-on engagement with equipment in the field. This environment demands precision, problem-solving prowess, and a commitment to maintaining high-availability systems.
